Update on the redirect issue
Posted 18 January 2015 - 09:54 AM
Many of you have been worried about the state of the site with the current redirecting issue, so I think we should update you on the current state of the matter.
Apparently, the site is currently being affected by malware, which causes the random redirects to inappropriate sites, and may have been causing many troubles for the users. I have identified the malware and the possible problem, but fixing/cleaning it is a bit out of my capability. We have decided to get in contact with security professionals in order to deal with the issue, and we are currently in the negotiation process. It will take a bit of time but we will try to get the site back to 100% as soon as we can, as we know it is really infuriating for the users to be redirected to unwanted sites.
Here are some notes about the questions you may have:
- The redirect is totally random and unpredictable, and it's impossible to pinpoint the exact moment of redirecting. I can approximate the rate of redirect is roughly 1-2%.
- The issue is mainly from the server-side, however, I advise you to be vigilant and protect your machines safe from dangerous sites anyway. Antivirus software may not protect you against the redirects, but it will protect from possible dangers from the sites you are redirected to (I recommend Avast but it's just my personal preference)
- There are possible ways to disable redirects on the browsers, though it may make your web-browsing experience a bit less enjoyable. There are guides over the internet and you can search for it if you want to.
- The issue is in no way related to the ads.
If you have anymore additional questions, feel free to ask me, I will try to answer to the best of my ability. I can answer technical questions too if you are curious.
Just so you know, we are frustrated with the issue too, and we will do our best in order to ensure your enjoyable forum experience.
